From Local Legend to National Television

Blacklidge Castle, one of Tucson’s most unusual and recognizable properties, was featured on HGTV’s Ugliest Houses in America as part of the Southwest Ugly Quest. The property advanced to the Southwest Regional Finals, competing for a national renovation prize of $150,000.

What HGTV Called It

Blacklidge Castle is a one-of-a-kind castle structure located in Tucson, Arizona, and was featured on HGTV’s Ugliest Houses in America (Season 7, Episode 5), which aired on January 28, 2026.


During the episode, the show referred to the property as “DnD Castle – Dungeons & Deserts,” a nickname used for the segment based on its fantasy-inspired design.

    Why HGTV Called It the “DnD Castle”

    A Fantasy-Inspired Setting

    The “DnD Castle” name fits because Blacklidge Castle has everything people associate with a fantasy quest:

    • gates, doorways, and thresholds that feel like portals
    • stone guardians that seem to watch you as you pass
    • a tower with classic storybook mythology
    • dungeon-like spaces and medieval design elements
    • the sense that the castle is alive - mysterious, cinematic, and waiting
       

    It’s not meant to be explained like a listing. It’s meant to be experienced.

    The Transformation (What’s Coming)

    A destination stay and event space (coming June 2026)

    Blacklidge Castle is currently undergoing renovations and is being transformed into a destination experience designed for:

    • immersive stays 
    • small private events
    • themed gatherings
    • creative shoots
    • story-driven experiences
